About
What IG Metrix is
IG Metrix publishes official figures on regulated online gambling, read from the regulators' own files. Every figure links to its source and stays in the currency it was published in.
IG Metrix is a free reference for the official numbers behind regulated online gambling. Regulators publish revenue, wagers, tax and player-account figures in their own formats and on their own timetables. We collect those figures from the source files and set them out in one consistent layout, market by market, with a link back to the file each number came from.
What we cover
We currently track eight markets:
- North America: Ontario, Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania
- Europe: Denmark, Great Britain, Sweden and the Netherlands
The history runs from January 2024. Michigan starts in January 2025 for now; we plan to extend it back to January 2024.
Each market keeps its regulator's reporting rhythm. Some publish monthly, others by quarter, financial year or half-year, and we show each period exactly as the regulator defines it.
How we treat the numbers
- Original currency only. Every figure appears in the currency the regulator reported it in: Canadian dollars for Ontario, US dollars for the US states, Danish kroner, pounds sterling, Swedish kronor and euros. We never convert between currencies, so comparisons across markets are about trends and shares, not exchange rates.
- Sources on every reported figure. Each figure a regulator reported links to the official file it was read from, with the date the regulator published or last updated that file. Growth rates, shares and 12-month sums are worked out from those figures by code.
- Calculated totals, clearly marked. Michigan, Pennsylvania and the Netherlands publish online revenue only product by product. For those three we add the products together for the same period and tag the result "calc."; it is our sum, not a figure the regulator published, and it is left out of the downloads. Denmark reports betting together with betting shops, so it gets no online total.
- Free downloads. The full dataset is available as CSV and JSON from the data page.
The methodology page sets out definitions, sources and known gaps for each market.
How the site is produced
Software downloads each regulator's file and reads the figures out of it. Before those figures go live automatically, an AI checker compares each one with the official file, and anything that does not match is held back for a person to look at. Short release notes may be drafted with AI and go through the same check. How we use AI explains each step and where people come in.
Editor
Frank Black, Editor. Frank is responsible for what IG Metrix publishes: reviewing items the checker holds back, reading what has gone live, and deciding and logging corrections.
Funding and independence
IG Metrix is free to read. We may in future take sponsorship, for example of a market page or the monthly email. No sponsor is booked today. If one is, the placement will be labelled, and the sponsor will have no influence over the data, the rankings or anything we write. Our sponsorship policy has the full rules.
